Hi, I'm Lauren - The Mom behind the Momcho. As a first-time mom from the North of Ireland, where breastfeeding isn’t so common, I had little to no knowledge of the topic before my pregnancy. Through my own research into the magnificent benefits of breastfeeding, I knew I wanted to try my hardest to give it a go for my baby.
Luckily for me, the magic happened right away! From birth, she latched on, and from that moment I was blown away by how primal it felt. With every feed, our connection grew stronger.
Then I stepped out into the world for the first time and reality hit. I had avoided the indoor stresses, but not the public ones. I realised I wasn’t confident breastfeeding in public, and with that came social anxiety. I tried covering with a muslin, but my baby pulled it straight off.
When speaking to friends and family in similar situations, I soon realised I wasn’t alone. Many had experienced the same challenges, rushing home to nurse or leaving a restaurant table to feed their baby in the car. That’s when I thought, we are doing an incredible job, we deserve more than this!
I took to the internet to look for a solution, but I was met with unstylish covers that resembled kitchen aprons - made from cheap, synthetic materials that were unbreathable and covered in awful prints. So, I decided to make my own - one that offered 360° coverage without sacrificing style, softness, or sustainability. The Momcho: A poncho designed specifically with moms’ needs in mind.
Sustainability means a lot to me, and I had a very specific weave in mind, one that allowed for airflow while keeping mom covered. That’s when I searched the GOTS database for certified manufacturers in Italy. With their unmatched reputation for quality and craftsmanship, I knew Italy would be a fantastic choice. All Momchos are crafted from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and feature a knit weave that allows additional airflow for the baby while keeping the mom modestly covered. The wide cowl neck makes it easy to check the latch, and the slit on one arm keeps mama free to enjoy her coffee or grab whatever she needs.
It became my best friend and lifesaver throughout my entire breastfeeding journey, from busy restaurants to overstimulating plane rides, it helped create a safe space for my baby to focus on feeding and in turn has helped to relieve stress and empower so many other moms I know.
I figured this is a product too good to gatekeep and I'm a girl's girl, or a mom's mom if you will. As a fellow mom who’s faced these same struggles, I wanted to share the Momcho with others who might be in the same boat I once was.
